The Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection Program aims to protect consumers by certifying a vehicle's safety systems and enabling revived salvage vehicles to be returned to the road. This program replaces the "Brake and Lamp Inspection" fully as of September 27th, 2024, consolidating the brake and lamp assessments with other vehicle safety systems evaluations into one, comprehensive inspection.
At Smog Plus Automotive Repair, we are certified to perform the CA Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection. Our licensed technicians and station comply with all the protocols and procedures outlined in the Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection Manual.
A Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection is required for the registration of revived salvage vehicles, revived junk vehicles, specially constructed vehicles (SPCNS), motorcycles, trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,000 pounds or greater, and off-highway vehicles converted to on-highway operation.
The Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection includes: lighting, passenger compartment, tires and wheels, brakes, steering and suspension, body structure, and a road test. Visit the Bureau of Automotive Repairs for more information on specific components checked.
